Currency in Panama

The Panamanian balboa has been tied to the US dollar since 1903, when the country became independent. US dollars are legal tender and used for all paper currency, and although Panama has its own coinage, US coins are widely used.

The only time that Panama has issued paper money was in 1941; these notes were withdrawn after just seven days, and burnt. (They are occasionally found in collections.)
